HGIA learned a valuable lesson from the widespread hurricane damage across Florida in 2004. Property owners, building contractors and restoration companies were ill-prepared for the environmental conditions that arose after the initial wave of destruction.
Indoor mold and bacteria in homes, condos, schools and public buildings created a variety of health problems, legal challenges and new risk factors for property owners, as well as restoration and reconstruction contractors.

Furthermore, traditional methods of restoration and remediation relied heavily on chemicals to treat indoor mold and bacterial growth. Thomas Clay, HGIA Founder states, "With the growing threat of chemical resistant molds, bacteria and viruses, as well as increased numbers of chemical sensitive individuals, the use of chemicals to sterilize indoor contaminants is no longer a viable option".
HGIA researches, developes, field tests and utilizes advanced technologies and environmentally friendly solutions, as an effective alternative to chemical based cleaners and biocides. This common sense approach has proved extremely effective against indoor molds, bacteria and viruses and reduces the overall cost of remediation to about half of the national average.
A "whole building" approach is utilized to sterilize molds, bacteria and viruses throughout an entire building and special attention is given to the heating, cooling and ventilation systems that may house and/or distribute indoor contaminants. Preventive technologies and solutions are also recommended to prevent or reduce future water amd mold damage.
HGIA understands that utilizing new building technologies, materials and methods during the reconstruction phase will help reduce structural and water damage resulting from storms and flooding, as well help prevent future indoor mold and bacterial gowth. From design and framing through the completion of construction and reconstruction projects, we can not afford to cut corners involving the environmental health and safety of the building's occupants, as well as the contractors, crews and other personnel.
HGIA's National Team of Experts are experienced in the many aspects invoving disaster restoration, reconstruction and prevention with a focus on environmental health and safety.
